Gatotkaca is a famous Indonesian superhero from the folktale Mahabarata. He is known as the son of Werkudara fo the 5 Pandawas which is known for his strength and bravery.

He has a tragic fate, though. In Mahabarata, his fate is as follows:
In the fourteenth day of the Kurusetra warfare (the war between the good Pandawa vs. the evil Kurawa), a rule was made so that both parties do not attack each other at night. Gatotkaca however, broke the rule and charges alone at night killing hundreds of Kurawa soldiers. One of the lawful good Kurawa general, Adipati Karna unleashes his mighty weapon Kuntawijaya on Gatotkaca mortally wounding him. Gatotkaca, in his last breath, still trying to massacre the Kurawa soldiers, then turns himself into a giant and when he died his body crushed hundreds of Kurawa soldiers to death.

In the Javanese version, however, it was the Kurawa that broke the rule; they ambushed the Pandawa at night and Gatotkaca stood alone to defend them because of the star on his chest could shine and blind the Kurawa soldiers. In a blind rage, Gatotkaca charged alone to avenge the death of his cousin Abimanyu who died a day before the night raid. Having exacted his revenge on the officers who killed Abimanyu, Adipati Karna confronted him and unleashed the Kuntawijaya. Not believing that he is on a near death situation, Gatotkaca flew as high as he could and met the spirit of his dead uncle (which in a blind rage Gatotkaca killed with his hands) whom told Gatotkaca that his fate is sealed; the spear of Kuntawijaya struck him and shattered inside his body. Gatotkaca's corpse then falls down from the sky like a meteor killing even more Kurawa soldiers.

I guess what killed him is not Adipati Karna's weapon Kuntawijaya. What killed Gatotkaca is his own rage and recklessness - on the other hand, he died with bravery and sacrifice.

Although this is the first time i've drawn Gatotkaca, I had this concept of gatotkaca since i was six years old.
While usually Gatotkaca is portrayed as a muscular man with thick moustache and a star on his armor, i always thought of him as a young man (because of his immature temper and recklessness) with the star etched on his body and a glowing veins.
